It started innocently enough; a call to a parts upplier to enquire about a Quaife differential for my BMW M5. We got to talking and he mentioned he was clearing out some spare parts. "Anything interesting?" I asked. The list he read had one thing that caught my attention, a 6-speed transmission from the limited production 850CSi V12 supercoupe. We talked some numbers on it, and with a simple "I'll take it!" a seed of an idea was planted.
Sedans. Gotta love 'em. A seat for you and at least three friends, and everybody gets a door. Big is good. Big motors are good. As a diehard BMW fan, what is there for a big motor? The six-cylinder in the M3 is nice. The V8 of the M5 is even better. But if you really want to run with the big dogs, there is only one way to fly... actually, twelve ways. V12 power! It's good enough for Ferrari and Lamborghini, but there is one measurement the Italian thorughbreds fall short on; not enough doors.
The idea started to germinate. Actually, it started to run rampant in my brain like an infestation of dandelions on a golf course. I knew I had to build a super-sedan of "comfortable proportions", sort of like an M5 for a true MOSAD (Man of Stature And Dignity). A modified BMW 750iL that would snort, paw the ground, and rampage into the night... all with a good helping of style, grace, and racetrack competence.
A true sportscar, no matter how big or how many doors, needs a proper transmission. As the bookended voice-over in Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon whispers, "Isn't this where we began?" Exactly. I just happen to have a 6-speed that will bolt right up to the V12 lying around...

The fun was just beginning.
