Rob's Gratuitous Callaway Turbo 535i Shrine
(I recently sold this car, and I will miss it!)
This is my second 535i, I had another '85 E28 in white ("PSW"). This one started out life as a regular '85 535i, but then Reeves Callaway in Old Lyme, CT got to it. Modifications at that time amounted to lots of head/valve/cam work and a Rotomaster turbo, with all the appropriate plumbing, and a Haynes oil cooler. This package emulated the Europe-only 745i motor, although it was tuned for greater power and torque. Dyno tests at the time show 289hp at the rear wheels and a 14 second 1/4 mile. Performance may be a little better these days... since then, there have been other improvements; a nifty intercooler, more valve work, Bosch Raceware ignition. Boost can be set (depending on ambient temperature) from 8-12lbs without predetonation. Power is abundant throughout the rpm range, but particularly mid-range. The "fine-tuning" on the car was done by Jake Freedman (Freedman Tire, Edison NJ), who owned the car for 8 years before me.  I recently added a variable fuel pressure regulator which makes driving the car so much more... err... blurrier.
Other modifications are extensive... lowered suspension courtesy of Bilstein and H&R, strut housings bent for camber adjustment, heavy front sway bar and strut bar (not shown in pcs),
BL/SS Level 3 short-shift kit with CCERK,  custom Borla exhaust that is quieter than stock, and stealthy BMW 15" steel wheels/hubcaps with Kléber 215/60WR-15 tires front, BFG 225/60-VR15 rear. Except for the color (aiiieee!!!!), the idea is stealth. I chew up enough Mustangs already, so why invite every one of them? Go see the interior.
NEW! Euro headlights with 80/100W H4 and 100W H1 bulbs, Euro bumpers, and BMW steel wheels with hubcaps (not shown in these pictures).
[Hit Counter] full-throttle runs since 7/26/97

and the strut tower bar was installed.
This engine is similar to a 745i.
Note the relocated air box on the right... And the intercooler on the left.
The intercooler, viewed from the back. Euro headlights - 7" outer, 5¾" inner.
Top picture shows the "city lights" on (7W bulbs).
Bottom picture shows 80W low beams.
